Muscle Building Workouts – 3 Tips For an Effective Pre-Workout

Let’s face it, muscle building workouts are tough. Each time you step in the gym, you need to have focus and the drive to push even harder than the previous workout. You must progressively push yourself to continue seeing results. Too often, I see individuals come into my gym, walk right to the bench, and later wonder why they aren’t experiencing muscle gains. They forgot to warm-up!

If you were to participate in a sports competition or a race of some sort, of course you’d warm up to achieve your best results. Once the competition slows, you don’t have the time to ease into things. Same with the gym – you need to hit the gym ready to go to save yourself from a few poor sets which will hurt your muscle gains. So great, you know you should warm-up, but what should you do?

3 Tips for an Effective Pre-Workout:

Adequate meal/hydration
If you’re looking for muscle gains, you absolutely must eat something around an hour before your workout.

If you exercise in the morning, pre-workout nutrition will make or break your results. If you neglect to eat, your body will burn stored mass for energy- I thought you were trying to gain mass! As with any exercise, water is vitally important to flush nutrients through your body and keep your systems in balance. Forget any suggested amounts of water, just keep drinking.

Pre-Workout Supplement
You will get many nutrients from the foods you eat, but sometimes that’s not enough for maximum muscle gains. Consider taking a pre-workout supplement to prepare you for a difficult workout. Dynamic Stretching
Ideally, you should break a light sweat before beginning your lift. A few dynamic stretches will loosen the joints and get the blood flowing. Running with high knees for twenty yards, shuffling, jogging backwards, etc. all count as dynamic stretches and will help prepare you for the gym.
